The year 2010 promises plenty of excitement for the East Africa information and communication technologies arena. Enhanced competition among key players, new technologies and an ever growing demand for ICT services and products will make the future indeed look bright.

Top on the expectation list is the stiff competition among three undersea fibre optic cables - Seacom, Teams and Eassy. Seacom and Teams have already landed on the East African coast, while Eassy is expected this year.

On Thursday, March 4th 2010, Mr. Albert Nsengiyumva, the General Director of the Rwandan Workforce Development Authority (WDA), presented Rwanda's new concept for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in front of representatives of the partnership Rwanda / Rhineland-Palatinate in Mayence. The event, that was hosted by the partnership's head orginasation in the rooms of the Ministry of internal affairs, was also attended by the Rwandan ambassador in Berlin, Mrs. Christine Nkulikiyinka.

UNESCO Global Monitoring Report released

The Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2010 was released in January 19. Five years before the due date of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), that claim among others primary school education for all children wordwide, the process still draggs behind. Today, 72 million children are not attending school, projections for 2015 show that this situation won't change for 56 million primary school aged children until then. The report identifies the global financial crisis as one reason for this failure. While aid commitments have been stable until the breakout of the crisis, they have reduced by more than one fifth in 2007. Ten years ago, the donor countries agreed that the goal 'education for all' shall not be missed due to a lack of resources. But
the report calculates that there is a lack of US$ 16 billion to achive full primary education in the 46 least developed countries, which have been donated US& 2.7 billion so far.
